Yellow-browed Warbler

Yellow Browed Warbler is the most common of the Siberian warblers to visit Britain and western Europe. As with other vagrants, most are located at coastal sites and consequently there have been just four records in the SBSG recording area to date [March 2001]. The first was in the Botanical Gardens on 5th and 6th November 1989 and was illustrated on the cover of the 1989 Sheffield Bird Report. The second was trapped at dusk near Ramsley Res on 2nd October 1993 and released early the following morning. This was closely followed by one briefly at Bowden Housteads Wood on 19th October 1994 and, most recently, one frequented Carr Vale NR from 19th to 27th October 1999. These dates are all typical for the species. This photograph of the Ramsley bird was taken by Ashley Fisher on 3rd October 1993, immediately prior to its' release. Last updated 11th March 2001.
