Nightjar

Unfortunately this Nightjar [a female or juvenile] was picked up dead near Strines on 13th August 2000. Very unfortunate, especially if this is a locally breeding [bred] bird, as the species didn't do too well at monitored localities in 2000. There are just a small number of known sites where the species breeds in the area, some of which may only hold the odd bird at best, and the main 'stronghold' only attracting very small numbers.
