Montagu's Harrier was, until recently, a much sought after bird in the Sheffield area and although it isn't recorded annually it is getting that way. Most people have now seen the species in the recording area, thanks to this immature male, which spent most of June [at least] in the area in 2000. It was mostly seen at Midhope Moor, although it could be elusive and was occasionally seen on Broomhead and other nearby moorlands. In fact 2000 was a good year for the species with at least two, possibly three different birds recorded, including an adult male at Middleton Moor on 17th May. These photographs of the Midhope bird were taken by Carl Corbidge on 18th June 2000.  Last updated 15th October 2000.
