The above winter plumage Knot at Redmires middle reservoir on 12th April 1984 was the first truly Spring record in the area. The species is a scarce passage visitor with an average of about 5 reported each year. Most records have been between June and November, with late August and early September the best times [see "Rare and Scarce Waders in the Sheffield Area", Slack and Morris, Birds of the Sheffield Area 1997]. The series of shots below, however, depicts a very approachable first winter bird at Thrybergh CP on 12th October 2003, with all four photographs taken by Paul Leonard.
