Wed Feb 8th 2012 - Tim Melling - Wild West Canada Sheffield University Arts Tower, Lecture Theatre 5, 7:15 pm
Dr Tim Melling is the RSPB’s Senior Conservation Office for the North of England, and former Secretary of the BOU Records Committee.
If that wasn’t enough in itself to convince you of his ornithological credentials, he has a lifelong interest in natural history, gained his PhD in butterfly ecology, is a tour leader for Naturetrek, and came overall second in Radio 4's natural history quiz ‘Wild Brain’. Tim is an accomplished speaker on natural history topics, and will be sharing with us the wonders of Western Canada, in what promises to be an excellent talk. Sat March 10th - Derwentdale Raptors Meet at 'Windy Corner' at 08:30 (SK169927). Park at the roadside at this gridref or a liitle further south if there's no room.
Let's hope that our run of poor weather finally ends! Wed March 14th 2012 - AGM and 2011 Review Sheffield University Arts Tower, Lecture Theatre 5, 7:15 pm
Treasurer's report and accounts with discussion, followed by the Secretary's report. The highlight will be the 2011 Review of the Year, which will offer stunning photography of the year's star birds and the opportunity to relive the events of the year. Recorder's report.

David W has asked me to give all of us the chance to read the above Report; I found it an interesting alternative take on local ornithology. Click here to download a pdf. Gallery update
Insulted that your pics for the gallery have been ignored? Don't be - I have quite a number to upload but it's a time-consuming activity and before the revised site is launched I'll have to re-upload the whole gallery. So I hope you'll understand that I intend to do the major update after the site revision. Ringing demo details updated See revised item below left. New Orgreave Guide now uploaded
Our thanks are due to Bob Croxton who has made time to write a great guide to the temptations of Orgreave complete with site map. Take a look at it here. You will also find here the sightings from Orgreave for the past year, along with similar new site reports that I've recently uploaded. You can now browse specific reports from 24 SBSG sites. 2012 local trips programme also available
See here for an outline of planned trips. The schedule may be tweaked in order to improve our prospects, so further details will be announced as the time approaches. |
